Lauren (she/they) is an asexual, non-binary, woman in STEM. She has written speculative fiction since she was old enough to pick up a pencil and always dreamed of far away places. Perhaps that’s why she fell in love with space and became an aerospace engineer.
After spending several post-undergrad years in defense jobs she found unfulfilling, Lauren went back to school to get a master’s in astrophysics and planetary science. While attending grad school and interning at NASA, she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The diagnosis was the motivation she needed to seriously pursue writing, not just as a hobby, but as another career. That spring she underwent treatment for her diagnosis, graduated with a master’s in space sciences, started her dream job on NASA’s Artemis program, and wrote the first draft of Lacewing and Coal Dust.
In the following two years she participated in several writing events, such as Writer in Motion, NaNoWriMo, WriteHive, WriteMentor, and AuthorMentorMatch. She has been mentored by AJ Sass, Hannah Kates, and Sarah Kapit. Her work has been featured in agent showcases and is currently pending representation.
When she’s not working to help send the first women to the Moon, she’s reading, writing, and playing her saxophone or piano. Lauren is a puppy owner, cosplayer, and tea enthusiast.
